This is a case of cost of membership vs bandwidth and the amount of content we have and regularly upload.
I know another AB site does this but they charge the same amount for membership as we do but upload a fraction of new stuff each month and have a fraction of total stuff in the members area than we do.
Each WEEK we upload around 100 meg of new pics and videos.
Everyone wants to check the new stuff and if we put it in zip files our server would not handle it, there would be huge delays just to log on, we would tear our hair out, get a BIG bandwidth bill from our host and then pay to upgrade our server massively so it did not happen the next week. So we have to balance membership cost / size of updates / bandwidth and storage.
